Black Veterans for Social Justice Receives Community Impact Award at Nike Headquarters in NYC

New York City, November 11, 2023 — While celebrating the 5- year anniversary of Black Veterans Project’s at the Nike Headquarters in New York City, Black Veterans for Social Justice (BVSJ) was bestowed with the Community Impact Award on November 11, 2023. Against the backdrop of the 75th Anniversary of the desegregation of the armed forces, this recognition was a milestone in their journey towards advancing veterans’ rights and their ongoing fight for social justice. The evening, attended by over 250 guests, was a celebratory affair marked by amazing food, soulful music, and a Q&A session featuring renowned author Rob Hill Sr. The award ceremony not only acknowledged the current endeavors of BVSJ but also served as a reminder of the organization’s lasting impact.

 

Since its inception, The Black Veterans Project has emerged as a trailblazer in advocating for veterans and addressing the systemic inequities they face. The organization’s unwavering dedication to its mission has garnered widespread recognition. BVP works to inform national reporting and multimedia storytelling on inequities affecting Black service members and veterans, believing journalism and media play powerful roles in shifting public narratives through education and learning.To date, BVP’s research has informed a host of federal policies such as the Military Justice Improvement Act, the Honoring our Pact Act, the Deborah Sampson Act and has been critical to advancing support for the advancement of the Sgt. Isaac Woodard, Jr. and Sgt. Joseph H. Maddox GI Bill Restoration Act.

 

The ceremony at the Nike Headquarters was not just a celebration of achievements but a reaffirmation of the vital role that BVSJ and BVP continue to play in shaping the narrative for veterans and promoting inclusivity and justice.
